PATH GBC
Indoor wayfinding reimagined through augmented reality.
Overview
PATH GBC is an augmented reality wayfinding prototype designed to help students navigate George Brown College’s School of Design. Our team focused on improving the confusing path to the Maker Lab by creating an AR experience using image anchors, on-screen arrows, and guided floor-by-floor navigation. The project combines low-fidelity testing, a full AR prototype in Reality Composer Pro, and a hosted web “home hub” where users can choose their floor and launch the AR experience.
MY ROLE
- Designed the overall project presentation and visual language, including layout and motion refinement for prototype videos
- Developed the homepage using Antigravity, and placed all AR directional arrows using Reality Composer Pro
- Planned the user flows and interactions, ensuring the experience was intuitive and easy to test
- Supported the team with decision-making and visual clarity throughout the design and development process
INSPIRATION
PROBLEM
We started by identifying that indoor navigation inside the School of Design is confusing and inconsistent, especially for first-time users. We mapped the existing routes, documented pain points, and built a simple, testable concept focused on guiding students to the Maker Lab. The process combined sketches, experience mapping, rapid prototyping, anchor testing, and a high-fidelity AR build in Reality Composer Pro, supported by a web-based floor selector that launches the correct AR scene.
OUTCOME
The prototype is a functional AR wayfinding system that guides users across all three floors using posters, arrows, and on-screen cues. Users scan a QR code, pick a floor, and immediately see AR directions to reach the Maker Lab. The outcome includes an end-to-end AR experience, a branded homepage prototype, and a full walkthrough video demonstrating both low-fidelity and high-fidelity flows. The solution shows how AR can make indoor navigation at GBC clearer and easier.
